1989 300E starting problem
I have a 1989 300E. I just installed a new voltage regulator a week ago and the car ran great with no problems. Today I put a full tank of gas in and then I went to work. 10 hours later I went to my car and there was a very strong smell of gas. When I tried to start the car it would crank but not turn over. I tried about 15 times and then it finally started. It ran really rough in the begining put when I punch on the gas the car ran well. When I drove home the ABS light was on in the instrument cluster.
When I got home I turned the car off and then started it again a minute after and the ABS light stayed on and the car started fine. I also notice that the RPM's are around 600 when the car is in park. Could this be the alternator and if so how do I test it? Thanks, Fab |

It sounds like the fuse on the OVP...
Do a search on OVP...There are a good number of good threats on the subject...

I went to the dealer and purchased an OVP. It only took 5min to install. After installing it the car started right up without any problem and ran great.
There was an aftermarket OVP installed before. I noticed that they do not last as long as the original thing. Thanks for the help Fab |
