This is in all likelihood your air pump/smog pump, which is a device that injects air into the exhaust stream before the exhaust moves through the catalytic converter in order to lessen the emissions that come from the rich fuel mixture on a cold start. That is what the code corresponds to on my C280.
As for fixing it, you're probably going to have to replace the pump. I really don't know if this is DIY on an W220. I've been living just fine without fixing mine, coming up on three years now. I just reset my light every so often to make sure there aren't any additional codes hiding in there. The part only operates for the first 45-60 seconds after a cold start, anyways. Jonathan

No, the check engine light will remain on until the code has been cleared from the memory. You can do that with a hand-held code scanner, which can be purchased at just about any auto parts store. As long as the scanner is OBDII compliant. However, this isn't going to fix your problem. Every time your car starts cold and the air pump fails, it will tell the computer. When this happens on two consecutive cold starts, it will then turn on your check engine light. The only real solution is to address the source of the code, which probably means replacing your pump.

Have the 02 sensor checked . The sensor looks for a lean condition to verify the AIR system. If the 02 can no longer read that low during the AIR self-test, the diagnostic system defaults to fail/code and trips the CE lamp.

air pump
Hi You do not say how many miles on the veh,it could still be covered under warranty,if not follow ellingtons advise and have some one run an air pump test under activations with a good scanner while watching the readings of the o2sensor if no change back track the system, could be a switch oner selenoid, vac leak, problem with the wiring harness,or clogged air ports.I would have it repaired, cause dumping cold start fuel and loading up those convertors may end up being costly.Joeym
