1990 300 se Serpentine belt - need help

Hi,

We have a 1990 300 se and I'm trying to replace the serpentine belt. Is a special tool needed? If so, where is the best place to get one?

I can't figure out how to release the tensioner pulley and lock it for replacement. Does the fan or shroud get removed? I have disconnected a small strut attached to no avail. Does something else ( Powersteering pump or alternator) Need to be moved? if so, what is the best method?

Thanks for your help!

You really should just do a search on this as it's been discussed so much.

BTW, the little strut does not get disconnected for the adjustment.

This is one of those things that you really need do correctly and it could prove to be more than just the belt. You may find you have a bad tensioner.

Search this forum on Belt Tensioner M103 for more info.

Whatever you do , do not try to adjust the belt tension with the nut that
sits at an angle at the top near the water pump and power steering pump, until you find and loosen the 19mm lock nut. It's hard to see or find until you know where to look.
