standart economy swtich?

Hi,

In a few posts I read people refering to a "economy meter" and a switch for selecting standard/sport or economy mode.
I have a 1991 2.6 and have looked everywhere but could not notice the economy meter or the standard-economy switch!

Any idea where it may be located?

PS: I bought the car a week back, it's a my first car & first merc and I just discovered that it has a spearker in the door too :-))

The standard / economy swith is located on the automatic transmission gate. It's not on all models, but if you've got it, you'll see it. It's a switch that goes up and down and has E or S on it depending on which you choose.

The economy meter is again, only on some models and indicates an estimated MPG - I'm not sure exactly which models have it, but I know we had it on the '93 500SE. It's on the dashboard dials - usually the top left I think.

In economy mode it will change up a gear earlier and in standard mode it will hold the gears longer and change later. Although if you floor it in economy mode the kickdown switch will cancel out the economy mode - I think.

It might be a regional thing (where abouts are you?). Or it might be that it was only on the 3 litre and above. Someone else around here will know for sure.
