Roadside assisstance

Broke down outside of Dallas half way to
Tulsa, needed a tow called Mercedes wanted $400 to tow me to Tulsa, had a local guy jump the battery was able to limp to a nearby AutoZone and put a rebuilt alternator in and drove home to Chicago. Couldnt believe an AutoZone in Muskogee, Oklahoma would have an alternator for a 89 300TE. Couldnt believe that Muskogee would have an AutoZone, so much for roadside assisstance

Thumbs up Mercedes -Benz Road side assistance

I had the opportunity to use this service and was very imprested with the service and the time and work done. My customer's 86 300-E was in my shop for a auto detail service. upon finishing to delivery the car back the battery failed to restart the car. At that point I called my client to advise him that a jump would not work and if he wanted me to install a battery. The reply was do what ever is nessessary as the detail wasa gift for his wife and they wer out of town.
I called the Mercedes-Benz servicegave them the car vin number and in less than a half hour they arrived checked out the problem installed a new battery under rear seat and recoded the radio and checked to make sure that was indeed the problem. Very curtious
I can only add prase to this service because my time was saved and they got the car up and running in noo time with a new factory battery.
Now that I am a owner of a 1992 300-E I feel better to deal with emergy situtions on the road.

Thumbs up

I posted about this on the ML forum. I had my battery replaced in my driveway with MB battery for about same as it would have cost me to buy an Interstate from my local distributor.

I'm sure I could have done the battery and recode the radio and steering sensor myself, but it certainly was easier having RA do it for me.

Good deal.

Cool

After reading all the post for Mercedes-Benz road side assistance. I kind of have to say may be joining AAA as a back up is a good idea. My wife and I have a premium service with AAA which allows free toe services for the first 100 miles and faster response. When we purchased our 300-E we first learned about the program Mercedes-Benz offered. In my case I guess the the best defense was to join this forum and learn about my model first and read the post from others about their problems and how to solve them.
My point is to have a plan . Mechnical maintance , AAA and Mercedes-Benz road side assistance . Hopefully the two last will never have to be used or abused.

Why do they say they have free towing for life, but charging these $$$$'s for a tow? That would make me cross.

I have used this service, but this service is by no means free!! and no one should expect it to be either. My experiance was because I thought it was free...lol.

Basically if you are stuck somewhere during the day with a minor problem, they will come there and fix it for you. Its like calling ur mechanic to your house, i'm sure he wants to be able to afford to put his kids through university one day and will charge you...and Mercedes does the same aswell. Its a convience they offer to you, and if they figure out your car needs more then a minor fix or jump, they will get your car towed to the STEALERSHIP ;-). They arrange all this for you while your buddy comes picks you up and you get back to work before your lunch hour is over ;-). In the end you only have to worry about picking your car up. See this works perfect when you're rich like me.....(alrite i'm jokin about being rich...lol).

But no one on this board knows much about this service because:
1) All of us here are smart enough to know when our car simply needs a mechanic, otherwise it wouldn't be broken down
2) We know better then sending our cars to the stealership and make our own efforts to fix it with our fellow buddies on this board, or at our good indy mech's.
3) We are all cost consious and share our deals and steals on this board to help each other out, no ones a sucker for paying on this board.
4) We all know that the only free part is them seeing you on the side of the road, it costs $100/hour once they say "Hi " to you...lol.

I have looked under the hood of many 6 cylinder W124 cars. The battery is always in the engine bay.

Was this a 1986 or a 1996 E class? Just curious.

My experience:
Changing a tire, giving you a battery jump, install a battery (at reasonable price) or delivering a gallon of gas is free, Lifetime weather you own, lease or borrow the car, stolen does not count, because they ask you the name and VIN!
No other manufacturer provides the service, BMW, Lexus, VW, only during warranty, and some others (Most American) will only send out a truck to tow you back, or sell you a battery. A few dealers provide the service on their own.
During and after warranty they will do small items if they can, belt, hose, fuse, after warranty they will charge, and they are trained Mercedes mechanics. I think Rolls-Royce was the only one that offered similar service

I was driving down the road once and my belt snapped. I lost power steering, brakes, everything. Fortunately I was right at an exit and I Managed to get off the highway and pull into a parking lot. I called MB Roadside and they were there in about 10 minutes with a tow truck. It wasn't an MB tow truck, but they have contracts with local towing companies so they sent a flatbed out and took me to the local dealer. I left the car, they had somebody drive me to my meeting in an ML and picked my up at the end of the day and the car was fixed and I drove home.

I also have a CAA (Canadian AAA) membership, but they will only tow you so far before they charge you. The MB Roadside will tow you to the nearest MB dealer. With my old car, the 420SEL I think I actually had to pay an annual fee for that, but my current car and my last car were/are leases from MB so its free.

That reminds me of my old ('85?) 190E that blew a radiator hose on I-20 on a 100-degree day in the middle of Mississippi. Coolant was blowing over the front of the hood. It was a Sunday, and I had my wife and 6-month-old daughter in the car, and there is NOTHING along that interstate for most of the state. God was happy with me then, though, because just as the temp needle started to rise, the sign for the first Jackson exit came up. I was able to coast down the ramp, where an OPEN Autozone awaited. Of course, they didn't have the correct hose, but my, "Look, I'm not leaving until I get another hose on that car." prompted the clerk to let me comparison shop with the old part in hand. I bought an X-acto knife, trimmed a hose to fit, refilled with God-knows-what coolant, and brought flustered wife and baby back home safe & sound.

I have always had good service from Roaside Assistance especially on my ex ML. The only tow that you get for free is if it is under warranty! MB provides the "roadside" service for lifetime on your vehicle. If your vin is not in MB database they might not (gray market). If you dont want a tow they wont force it on you and you can make your own arrangements,(they can contact a towing company) they will change a tire , bring fuel, and provide a jump. All other services which they provide at roadside, belts hose etc. are billed. I dont understand why there is any whining, most manufacturers dont support their cars after the warranty period, including BMW and LEXUS.
The only time they dont supprt this if there is no dealership, but they will contact a provider such as AAA

Just last week, I left all the lights on on my '01 E-320 sitting in the garage. Came out 5 hour later to the sound of nothing. I couldn't get my Vette out of the garage to jump the wagon, it's a two car deep garage, so I called the MBRSA and they called my dealer, four miles away. Within 30 min. tech showed, jumped the car, reset everything, we bantered a little about my Vette, real nice tech. Thanked him and all was OK! What else can I say...it works!

Try calling them if you locked your key in the car. MBUSA does not have a simple way of dealing with this. Apparently, there is no such thing as a master key or a way of opening the door or trunk without the key. Who wants to either have the car towed to the dealer (for a fee) or let it sit there for a day or two to order a new key?
