W124 E320 93 Trans repair or rebuild?

Hi...

I have been facing issues with reverse gear for almost 3 weeks. The car used to vibrate when gear goes into reverse, then it would back out. Now the car wont go into reverse or will move very slowly. If the car is parked for a while it will be easier to reverse it, but when hot it would barely move backwards.

I checked with 2 mechanics, one diagonised the problem tobe due to reverse clutches, the other named a part in the gear box that had a 'brake' in it, cant really remember.

Is there a way to diagonise the problem precisely or the trans has to be brought down and inspected? How long would be a resonable warrantee period for a gear rebuild?

Thanks

Modi
