Sorry about the profile guys (gals?).
No worries about "things", just didn't fill in the fields. So yes, I am in MA where it has been in the 20's - 30's. Average drive has been 5 - 15 mi, with about one good 50 mi + drive a month. The car is driven maybe once or twice a week. I am going to clean it out, change the oil and watch. I usually run Mobil 1 15W50 and the last change was 2k mi ago. I'd say the buildup was over the last 2k. Thanks for all of the info. |

Yes, in your climate and your driving conditions, this is what I would expect. You should change your oil more often in the Winter and it will help greatly if the oil is at full operating temperature when drained. It takes longer for the oil to reach full operating temperature than it does for the coolant. It typically takes 17 miles for the oil to be hot and in cold weather even longer.
Good luck, |

Also check to make sure your thermostat is working properly. The coolant temperature should be above 80 degrees Celsius after a good 10 - 15 minute drive. If it stays below 80, the oil will not get hot enough.

^ all the above and damn you gotta DRIVE your car more or this is what comes back to you. Mercedes made the car so you can DRIVE it. 10 15miles is too lil for round trip.
