Starter-lockout is the safety-neutral switch, I replace that on my e420 but that was not the problem. The starter-lockout will only disable the engine from starting unless it is in Park or Neutral. If your engine turns over then I would not replace that part.

Update

The neutral safety switch was replaced - this did essentially nothing - at least I wasn't expeciting much from its replacement.

The next recommendation that I was given, was to get a new LH module and a Base module.

I tried to contact the fellow in DRichFL's link, but he seems to have gone awol, along with his modules.

****Would a bad ETA cause the module(s) to go bad??****

Update

Finally !! Finally I have my car back.

I tried a variety of combinations of used modules (ASR/EA/LH) and did not get a peep out of the rebuilt ETA.
So...I called the rebuilder, and told him that his ETA was DOA and to send another one (after some questions of him making sure, he sent one out right away).

Having the first ETA arrive Dead only caused me to pull out my hair and spend money on modules I didn't need. I could've been on the road over a week ago, maybe two.

Bottom line: If you get a rebuilt ETA, hook it up to the harness connector first - turn on the ignition, and make sure the plate moves at that point, and that you can hear other noises (whine/click/whatever)...as long as it make some kind of noise.

Other bottom line: Mercedes has built up a lot of bad karma by not fessing up to the bad insulation in the harnesses and ETA's.

A big THANK YOU to everybody who was with me in this "adventure".
