Yes, but...

My understanding is that it will...but only after some minor cutting of the 201 louvres. I've seen it done before (the finished product, not the process)

Yes with a conversion kit. I am going to have it done myself, all the parts are at my basement and I am going to take it to the body shop soon.

You have to add a metal frame on the hood and then insert the grille. I ordered one of those S600 grilles with the chrome inserts. The total parts price is around $600.00, labor will be a little more cause you have to repaint the hood and do some bondo to fill the crack, etc.

Johnson,

You may be pertaining to a different sort of conversion altogether. Gary was asking about grills from a W210, not a W104.

At any rate, the local body shop *either* inserts the grill louvres of the 210 into the 124 *or* the entire 210 grill (including the chrome surround), although my initial understanding was that it was the former...I wasn't paying too much attention as I wasn't so interested. I have to investigate this further.

I myself am sticking to the 94/95 grille upon the conversion of my 93 500E.

Will post details as I find out more...

Why would one put the grille from a 190e (W201) on a 300e (W124), when the grille is virtually the same.

From my understanding, he wants to put the grille insert from a W210 - 1996-present E-class in his 1994 W124 E class, which has the updated hood/grille, and not the grille and chrome surround like my pre 1994 car has.

The insert of the 1996-present W210 e-class looks very similar to the insert in the 1994-1995 W124 E class hood as far as shape, but I believe it has more chrome strips or less louvers in it, and looks very good

You could just add some more chrome strips to your existing grille if thats the look you want.

The W124 hood conversion mentioned, consists of a new surround piece for the front that is attached to the hood, then filled in a painted, and thenyou can insert the newer style grilles into the hood, which effectively makes the hood the same as a 1994-1995 W124 hood, but if you weigh out the costs, its basicallyt hje same price as actually buying a 1994-1995 hood and getting it painted.

i think it can be done, but you may have to have it modified slightly, like shaving down some of the edges to make it fit.

Not to jump in, but: I have a '92 300E with euro lights. Can I put a later 124 hood/grill on this car? Momma would be delighted!!

Sure could!

Need part numbers?

94/95 Hood - 124 880 0857
94/95 Hood Grille - 124 880 0983

You'll be needing a hood ornament as well...misplaced the part number on that one.

The fact that you already have the euro lights mean theres one less thing you have to do...

Hope that helps!

Grills

Thanks for yours reply!!

The reason that I want to replace it because, I have saw someone in the net, which use a w201 grill replace onto the c-class, so, I wondering whether I can put a w201 e-class avantgrade grills (including the surrounding chrome metal) onto my w124.

can I just replace the whole unit at once?? is that prefectly fit??

W201/W210/W124....

The W201 (190) is no fun at all, so that will be a mistake. The W210 (E class/avantgarde) grill has a lot of chrome strips and looks very good. Yes you can retrofit an original W210 avantgarde grill into your W124 grill frame. Mercedes sells an E class avantgarde grill-like insert for the W202 (C class) as well which may be easier to retrofit (don't know). I have retrofit an OEM W210 E class grill insert into my C class grill frame but that was because the plug and play E class like grill inserts were not available back then.

Some after market companies (MHZ or in pro) sell W210 E class avantgarde like grill inserts that fit the W124 grill frame (one insert for the pre 94 grill frames and one insert for the after 93 grill frames).

Hope this helps & greetingz,

A 1992 300E even with EURO lights will NOT interface correctly with the 1994-1995 W124 hood, unless your Euro lights have the little dip/dimple to clear the new hood's grill lines.

Our 1988 300TE w/EURO lights, doesn't have the dip/dimples, so I doubt yours does as well.

Good luck,

:-) neil

You can order new lenses for your Euro lights for the 1994-1995 hood.

Then you can sell your old lenses and hood to recoupe some of the costs.

I have a 1990 300CE. Eurospec
I'd like to use the s600 type grille and replace the hood badge with the simple hood cap badge
Do I update the hood to a 94/95 then buy an S600 grille and a badge ?
Does anyone have the part number for the grille and does the hood fit with no modification ?

Thanks

no, they make grilles that are avantgarde or s600 style for the 86-93 style hoods.
