1989 300E almost stalling
I have been having this problem for a little while now. The car drives great but when I am coming to a stop the rpms drop to 500 the car shakes a bit and the car seems like it is going to stall but then when I come to a complete stop the rpms raise back to normal. This happens more often when I am coming to a stop from high speeds.
I just changed the ignition wires, sparkplus, dist cap and rotor and nothing has changed but the car runs even better now. Does anyone have any idea what this could be. Thanks |

Maybe like my car, it may have leaking injector seals... so thats why I am told my car is stalling in hot weather (by a MB tech).

I took a closer look at what my car is doing when I am coming to a stop. I noticed that my oil pressure gauge on idle moves between 1 and 2 and when that happens the rpms move up and down also.
Does anyone now what this could be? Thanks |

Super,
A slow oxygen sensor could be your problem. Since the problem is worse coming from high speed, the problem could be your O2 sensor being too slow to react to the oxygen levels in your exhaust at idle right after cruise rpm. A yo yo effect then happens as the mixture and oxygen levels chase one another until they stabilize. I had a similar problem, my O2 sensor was fried from burning gallons of oil through bad valve guide seals. Your problem could be many things, but it sounds like you have just done a tune up and if you have more than 60k on your Oxygen sensor (or don't know when it was last changed) it is probably time to replace it just like the wires, cap and rotor. Once you eliminate the obvious things then you can buckle down and start looking for leaks. My 2 cents. I attached a link with some O2 sensor info.
