1987 260E ignitional module (EZL?)

Is this EZL in the 260E interchangeable with those in the 300E?? I have access to one from 1988 300E, the connectors all fit, but I am not sure if they are interchangeable? Should I give it a try? Is there any damage done to the engine if I try a unit that might not be compatible? I mean if the wirings/vacuum is the same then it should be intercheable right?

I need to try something, today I tried to start my 260E and it just won't start up any more, it will crank and crank, but wont' start. Luckily its in the parking lot of the building where I live, if this was somewhere else that would be disaster.
