1987 260e wont start
i have checked for spark at the plugs. also checked to make sure i was getting fuel to the " fuel distributer". also checked and cleaned the cap and rotor. there is power to the EZL ignition module. there seems to be all the above. my next question is " CAN THE COIL BE SENDING A SPARK TO THE PLUGS, BUT NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO FIRE?" CAN YOU PLEASE HELP... THANKS KEVIN

Same thing is happening to me -
MY 300E 2.6 is in the same boat. My mechanic (who also offers me advice for DYI, thank God) suggested Crank Position Sensor. I am trying this tonight - will advise if it works.
Car has new MAS, OVP is newer, tried a new coil...from other posts, I've seen numerous notes about the CPS. Here goes nothing. Marc Gregorio 91 300E 2.6 235K |

One More thing -
When the car died, I checked for spark...had very weak spark, then nothing, so I am assuming your comment about not enough to fire may be valid for the CPS....I'll let you know tomorrow or later, if I get the chance.

thanks for your reply
after hours of "fiddling" i finally got the thing to run. still starts hard , but was able to get it out on local road, and it will get to speed and run smoothly until you give it more throttle then it acts like it misses,(sputters). let me know if you have any luck. thanks

Bump - what turned out to be the cause of the no-start? Was it in fact the CPS?
