Well most people have used fishing line or dental floss, but the fishing line I think is stronger.
Then you can use wd 40 to remove the gummy adhesive left over or something else that will remove the adhesive. If there is slight fading or discoloration, clean the area thoroughly with a good buffing compound that is not too abrasive and that is safe for clear coats as well. You will want to buff it from time to time until it completely blends in. You should also do a search of the forums by using the search button above to the right.
