Passenger Power Seat Trouble

It seems the passenger seat in my 1988 300e has a mind of it's own. The recline mechanism doesn't want to work all of the time. It will go back but it won't come back up. This doesn't happen all the time but I'm wondering if I can fix this myself or will I have to take it in. Any suggestions???
