V12 s600 only runs on 6

my friend just bought a s600 v12 for £2000, yes £2000, problem is it only runs on one bank the right 6 have no spark. both coils have power and car travelled several hundred miles on limp home (70mph). i know this car kills a bank for economy, and as the engines are supposed to be indestructable, i was wondering if it could be a minor prob with this function or has he just bought a £2000 2 ton shed?
any help would be much appreciated.

Ignition control module?

Might want to indicate what year you have. Then we can take educated stabs in the dark.

I am buy no means an authority on this, but the 6 cyl mode is a limp home mode that I believ is performed by shutting off fuel to the injectors. I belive it will go into that mode when such things happen such as ASR or ESP has a fault of some kind, making the car a little to over powered to be driven by the average. I am not sure if turning of ARS or ESP will give you back the other 6 cyls but its worth a try.

Essentially the engine is two straight sixes and one can be turned off for other emission or performance related resones as well. I am not aware that a side can be turned off for economy reasons but I could be wrong.

Also my understanding is that with one side off you will still have about 150HP or so. I would think it would be able to do over 70.

Since you mensioned both coils, I belive you are talking about the older system with a distributor. Please give us the year.

its a 1992 kreg and looks pretty basic by todays standard this is why i live in hope for an easy fix.
not sure of actual speeds achieved just know it has no grunt but did achieve motorway speeds.
have swapped coils with ones from identical car that runs well and it made no difference to either car.

Since you've swapped coils, you can now try swapping ignition control modules. Careful not to wipe any of that whitish goop off the backside.

Good Luck!
