About a 1000 miles into my ST high mileage ATF venture

So far all is good.

Shifting is firm and smooth.

Good luck. I am sure there will be no fluid related problems.

Feels very OEM to me IMO.

Hopefully this thread won't get locked because I didn't use OEM MB approved ATF lol .

Quality high friction modified ATF's from major manufactuers like Mobil,Shell,Pennzoil are so abundunt on the market and are being openly used in other makes like BMW,VW and others that also call for "special"/lifetime fluids.

I am convinced that the "special" fluid is simple being synthetic. Before this special fluid, MB was just using regular DEX III. They insisted on sythetic on the 722.6 so they demand this special fluid. It is special because it is synthetic.

Another supporting evidence is that this special fluid can also be used on 722.3 which used DEX III.

Furthermore, the newer special fluid for the 722.9 can also be used on the 622.6 and 722.3.

In another word, the newer special special fluid is compatible with the special fluid and is compatible with DEX III and is compatible with . . .?

Many times fluids can be back wards compatible...BUT the original formula of Dexron 3 without the needed friction package isn't forward compatable.

YES as stated & posted many times the 722.6 fluid is based on Dexron 3 ATF! But the special friction modifiers that are added are required for long life.

And YES the fluid for the 722.9 trans is also Dexron 3 ATF. But again the additive package required for that trans ISN'T in the fluid that was developed for the 722.6 trans & isn't in regular Dexron 3.

IF you want the 722.6 trans to last 50K miles longer then use the correct fluid!
