94 C220 ignition problem

Hey Guys,

94 c220. Was out driving today, stopped to get air in the tires and went to start the car and nothing. All the lights come on when the switch is turned on, but turning all the way does nothing. Now usually when it starts you can feel when you are turning the switch to start it. Like a slight drag. Well now it turns all the way freely but does nothing, no crank or nothing. Does this sound like the switch to you?

I was looking for the parts in the shop here and I see there are about 3 different parts. All the lights, sunroof, etc work just fine.

Jason

Yea try neutral, but the common problem that fits your description is the steering lock. The problem is that there is a POS tube that runs from the tumbler through the lock to the actual electric switch. The tube cracks and folds over not fully transmitting the rotational angle to the switch which then doesn't get to the start position.

Steve,

I would say that is right on the money, as the steering would lock sometimes with the key out and off, but others it would not. I tried the neutral thing, but nothing. If it is the steering lock, what part will I need to replace it and is it a hard fix for me to do myself.

Thanks for your help
