To cruise or not to cruise??

Cruise stopped working couple of weeks ago. So last weekend I got another cruise amp from the junk yard. One to practice soldering on since I have never done it before. Thought my luck would change. I decided to just take my origonal one out and replace with the one from the junk yard without trying any soldering yet. Man got whiplash from the surging!
Okay... I'll just put the cruise thing on the back burner and turn my attention to replacing the ignition switch. This I can do.
Got everything back together except that little rubber surround thing that goes on the lock cylinder. Some kind of retainer ring broke off the back of the wood piece that surrounds the lock cylinder. Drats!

Hard to see how it goes even with a flashlight looking from underneath.
Went to adjust my angle lying on my back to get a better look and snap!
I had my arm wrapped around the steering column to lift myself up and broke the cruise control lever. @#**&!!!

Only three hours left before they closed so I jammed back to the junk yard, ready to pull off anything that got in my way. haha.

Sitting there just for me was a 380SEL. Looks like it just got placed too.
Cruise handle was in perfect condition. All the words were perfect. Nothing worn off like my old lever.

Within 20 minutes I had the steering wheel off and the lever unplugged.
Best of all they only charged me $5 for the lever. What a find!

On my way out I checked the other W126 models there for the surround piece. All but one were missing theirs. The one had been glued back on. What a mess.

After I put the new(used) cruise lever on I took a test drive on the freeway. My efforts paid off! I have cruise again. Yessssss!!

I was so happy I returned home, set up the shop lights in the driveway and put on my wheel well chrome strips to finish off my day.

Cool
