just got replacement bulbs for the air & heat knobs on the center console of my 1987 300SE . they seem to be extra bright - and worse , the plastic knobs seem to be on fire , they get so hot.
Are there different intensity bulbs available ? the ones I got are clear and marked 12v/1.2

12V/1.2W is the right bulb. Mercedes uses dull bulbs (structured bulbs instead of clear-glass bulbs) in the W124...these dull bulbs are less bright and have a high(er) gray plastic socket.

thanks for the info. I'll put these bulbs in - and hope the plastic knobs don't heat to a point of no return.....
