Stalling probs with 92 300E
Hello everyone, I'm new here and was just referred by a friend from an MG forum I belong to. I have a 92 300E that I have owned for almost a year now, and really enjoy it as a work car and local runabout. Recently I've begun to have stalling problems. As I'm driving in town, occasionally on the freeway but usually in regular traffic the car has intermittently stalled out. As I'm doing, oh say 45, the car will just die. The tach will continue to read out correctly, but if I give it gas, nothing. I can put it into Neutral, turn the key off and back on, and it usually restarts with no problem. Drive on to work, or back home and all is well. On one rather warm day it occurred maybe 5 or 6 times in the last mile home. I let it sit for 2 or 3 days, and when I drove it again, it had no probs for 4 days, then stalled out once.
My friend who posts here suggested that it may be the fuel pump relay. Occasionally I can smell gasoline in the interior (not always) and he said there may be a loose fitting at the pump.
I'm not very familiar with the workings of these cars, my expertise is in the 60's and 70's British Iron, but I'm fairly mechanical and could use any help/suggestions you folks may have to offer.
Thanks in advance
Rufus
