High Beam is NOT working ??

UPDATE: Found out the switch on steeringwheel is bad, high/low beam turnsignal switch. BUT, I don't think that is going to fix the daytime running lights issue will it ?? 91 500 sl

To use the high beam, press forward on the turn signal, and pull it back to switch to low beam. If you pull it while it is in the low beam position, it flashes the high beams.
At least that is how it works on my W201 and R170.

Headlamp switch must also be "on."

I know how to engage the high beam, but it doesn't flash brighter, and I do have the headlights on, are the headlights suppose to be on all the time?

Meens car was made for CND market..which means it has daytime headlamps for Canadian Saftey Mandates.

Try this

Key Off, light sw On......try stalk for high/low beam.

There must be someone here from Cnd that is more failiar with the DOT light mandates there..

There should be CND marked on the emiisions sticker under the hood..verify that first.. should be a yellow sticker , maybe??

Arthur

On some cars ( older ones ), the lights come on as soon as you start the engine.
On others, the DRL's ( Daytime Running Lights ) come on when the transmission is placed in gear.
In either case, the high beams will not work, until the actual lightswitch is turned on.

Ok..

They don't want running daytimes to be able to high beam, which makes sense...That is why I asked if he had a CDN version.
The lighting schematic is different for CDN , along with the ATA alarm circuits.

Will wait for his reply before attempting to trace out the schematic for CDN Lighting circuit...
CND/ US both should have high/low beam funtion from Key ON , L/S ON... but he has not replied to that yet.

ok tried that, YES--with key off, switch on to 1 of the options-theres like 3 different settings for headlight switch, when headlight is OFF, tap the highbeam switch and I do get the lights lighting up everytime I push high beam (but I don't think they are the brights though, but the switch does work---I'm guessing its some relay of some sort, JUST put in new lights too,

High beams on 9004 bulbs are not that great to begin with..they later went to HB2/9003 lamp..much better.

There is a relay listed for that model.

The question I asked was do the lights come on high/low beam with the stalk
switching to the two positions..the second question is do you have the Pass/Flash working ? That has to have the stalk held all the way towards the driver ..it has no set/lock position..and requires driver holding
