weird central locking problem
00 e430,
yesterday the red light started to come and go on the tow hook button on the center console. today, the lock/unlock didn't work with the key. finally worked then I locked the car and left. Only to find out hours later that the car was sitting with all the windows down, sunroof fully opened, and the trunk open as well. this is totally messed up ! so much for mercedes security. !!! could anyone give some idea as to what's going on ? Now the dome light stays on unless i turn it off manually even when the doors are closed and the trunk opening button red light is constantly on and i can't even open up the trunk ! this sux !

I'd guess that something in the conveinence feature module has gone completely nuts.
Don't know about your '00 model, but my '92 300SE CF module controls the delayed cabin lights, rolling up and down the windows and opening and closing the sunroof - that list involves most of your problems (I don't have remote trunk release or the tow switch you mention.) Maybe a can of Raid (to kill the bugs?) |

turns out the battery compartment is filled with water. I used the plugs to drain the area. just not sure where the water is leaking into that area from !

I don't think there's a CF module on that car as much as it is a cooperation of various parts, and the module in the pump under the rear seat is obviously involved.
This could be a door seal, but it's more likely coming from the rear window. I don't know if the trunk seal will let water under the rear seat; I'd check that too. |

I checked the trunk and the right side compartment (opposite to where the cd-changer is on the left side), is totally soaked in water. Now I'm curious what would make water reach that area. because water in that area led to leakage into the battery area through the rear seat. Unless ofcourse there's a leak that's going both into the battery area and the trunk in the rear.
So much for great engineering !
