103 Fan Bearing

I have detected some play in the fan. Seems to be some noise from that area.

Does 1 plus 1 = my fan bracket bearing is going out?

I don't want to panic, I have a new one in the shop..., however i just spent half the day changing out a host of fluids on two of the cars... i would like to let this go for a few weeks.

it's the 300e with 172k

Noise

Don't let it go my let go at 40 mph had to replace dist. cap,fan shroud, belt and nice dent in radiator so i am watching that real close now
for a possible leak. If you have noise and some end play it is not a question of if it will go but when! Best to change it because you need to than you have to on the side of the road

check

just to be sure why dont you check the 8mm allen bolt holding the fan clutch on, i think these are left loose a lot of times when the pully has been removed because of the difficuilty in tightening the thing.

some play in the fan.
Some play in the fan is no great cause for alarm. Of course I don't know your definiton of some. You need to use a stethscope and determine if the bearing in the fan clucth bearing bracket is howling.

I would change it out - not fun if it locks up while you're on the highway!
