99 Mercedes E320 Oxygen sensor
My engine light came on and Autozone gave me a reading of PO136, which is the left side (sensor 2, Bank1). Is the left side the passenger or driver side? I see there are two sensors in front but I just dont know which side I should replace. Thanks.

Car L/R orientation is always from the driver/operator position. In a LHD car , the DRIVERS side would be opposite from a RHD car , see...? ..so , you never use driver/passenger sides as a chassis R/L reference. ..but using the driver position as reference , either one would have the correct L/R orientation, regardless of LHD/RHD............... I am still kind of confused. If bank 1 sensor 2 is the sensor that needs to be replaced, which one is that location-wise on the 99 E320? Thank you.

Thanks, Arthur. Is there a difference between right front and right rear sensors? How close is the right rear sonsor located to the catalytic converter? Is that easy to reach once the car is jacked up?

The rear sensor is always located behind the cat. converter, as it's main purpose is to monitor the performance of it.

Thanks. I just jacked up my car and saw both of the sensors. Unlike the front ones, they are easy to access and do not look like you need a special socket to remove it. Hope the engine light will clear once the new sensor is installed. I thought about changing out both but the price is kind of steep so I will just change out the defective one for now.

A 22 mm or 7/8" wrench will do the job.
Most sensors come with a little bit of anti-seize compound on the threads. DO NOT apply any more. Btw., the torque requirements are about the same as a sparkplug.

Does anyone know how to remove the connector? After using a pair of plyer to try to pinch it to get the two little hooks released, I had to use a small screwdriver to pry the hooks open. I know there must be an easier way but just cannot figure it out. Thanks.
