It looks and sounds like soldering flex computer cable is the best option so far. Based on your picture I'd say with the correct soldering iron its very doable.

You got it. That's the way it's designed unfortunately. I didn't have the time to do any photoshop editing to the pic to make it more understandable but you've got the right idea.
