R170 Ignition Tumbler Replacement
Hello, All. I've been lurking here a while but this is my first post.
I'm starting to experience the dreaded sticking ignition problem on my '04 Crossfire. (For those of you who don't already know, the Crossfire is a re-badged '00 SLK320 with funky body work) I already ordered a replacement unit from my Chrysler dealer but plan on doing the swap myself. I found a whole bunch of articled dealing with the tumbler replacement, but nothing specific to the R170. So my question is this: Is replacing the tumbler on the SLK similar to the other procedures listed here or is it a completely different animal? Thanks much, Bob... |

It's the "switch blade" key that is integrated with the remote. The cut part of the key is on the sides vs the top & bottom.

A quick update: I sprayed a little WD-40 into the keyhole and it seems to be much smoother now although it still gets pretty rough after the car has been sitting in the sun all day and gotten nice and warm.
I have the service manual as a PDF and operations pertaining to the ignition switch & tumbler are referenced to section 8D, which isn't in my copy. Does anyone have a section 8D they'd be willing to share? |
