Ok. Originally this idea was theoretical. I was considering it to save weight on my dedicated autocrosser. So my last autocross my clutch fan failed and the car started getting warm. So I had the aux fan wired so it ran continuously and tried it out yesterday. The temp was in the eighties. It did not do the job.
Althouugh the car never got hot enough to push any coolant out the overflow the temp went up near the red zone and I had to curtail activity to keep it from getting any hotter. By alternating between sitting with the fan running and running to circulate the water I was able to bring the temp down between runs by missing a run here and there allowed by a cooperative starting official. Running in ESP at the scca xcross, I was beaten by less than a second by a late model GTO which also was running r compound rubber like I was. I beat the same car when it was being driven by a second driver by a second or so. What with the cooling issues I was distracted enough that I was unable to monitor how I was doing against other competition. I was also running a fully locked diff for the first time and found the car had trememdous grip coming off the turns, but it was a bit tricky to drive at the limit. I got behind on my steering once and did a 270 and stayed on the track but my #4 daughter did a short detour into the corn and had to be pushed out. I had to pull corn staulks from the rear bumper and from between the driveshaft and the exhaust pipt after that. We got a lot of friendly kidding about roasting corn from the locals. Tom W
