1995 C 280 Engine Harness or Sensor?

I recently bought a 95 C280 with 85K miles, I bought it non-running, the owner said he had it towed to the dealer after it wouldn't start one day and they told him he needed a new engine harness for $3500.00 parts and labor. I lossened up the harness and wiggled it around and got the car started, now it won't start again, my question is should I replace the harness or should I look at a sensor or something first? I don't see any signs of deterioration in the wiring, but it could be inside the loom. If I do need the harness where would be the cheapest place to find one? I found one for $700 but people on here were talking about some for $500, but never said where from? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
