front seat belt in 300CE
The part that motorized retraction of the front driver seat belt stopped working and one can hear the motor making noise.
I am mechanically inclined. Want to know generally what part goes bad. This is for 1990 300CE. Any help would be great. Thanks barry.shah@gmail.com |

Barry, simply remove the fuse that controls the seat belt extenders and forget about them. I've done exactly that on our three 300CE's. It's far simpler to reach back with your hand just above the floor and grab the seatbelt than fool around with the presenters ... especially for passengers unfamiliar with the presenters. On our 1992 300CE the pod trim piece came loose and interfered with smooth operation of the presenter ... solved that problem too.

I feel that the Presenters are a good feature and should be maintained and repaired if possible. I put back an external flange that came loose on mine with Quik-Steel in a couple of minutes. Otherwise they work fine and can be repaired if necessary by ordering some parts that are not that expensive. Why not keep the car in original condition if it is feasible? It would appear in the subject case that the gearing for movement of the presenter arm is loose or broken and I am sure it can be "fixed" if the member wishes to do that, at a relatively low cost.
