Timing chain question for you 190E owners with the M102 engine

My 230CE has basically the same engine as the 190E with the M102 2.3L. Lately, maybe the last few hundred miles, I hear what sounds like the timing chain rattling at rpm's higher than about 3500. I don't hear anything below that. At first I thought it was the idler pulley going out, I replaced it and I still heard the same sound, sort of like a metallic slap. Has anyone had one break with the similar sounds happening? Is it difficult to replace?
