C240 side mirror assembly - how to 'click on"?

OK, so I'm a girl, but I can't seem to figure out the magic formula of how to click in the main driver side mirror assembly (got wacked off, but is in good shape). There are two tabs towards the end that have to be inserted, but then the assembly won't fit correctly

. Can someone give me the secret?
