Starting issue...

OK, my 2.3 16v has been sitting since 2001. I wanted to be sure it ran before I take it all apart for paint, bodywork, interior and mechanical. It DID run(that's a laugh) when I parked it. I changed oil, flushed gunk(I mean fuel) tank, put a fuel pump and filter on and...wait for it...nothing. So I checked the flow from the pump, +/-.5 gallons per minute which is close to what the Bosch manuals suggest. I removed the dizzy and found it to be dry inside. The regulator seems to be getting fuel but maybe not sending it on to the dizzy. What steps should I take that I have somehow missed? The EHA is supposedly a issue on cars that have been sitting but rather than throw $200-$400 at it I'd much prefer to KNOW first. Thanks!

A fuel distributor....

Does the car start with some starter fluid sprayed in the intake ? If yes, the problem is with fuel delivery and not electrical.

Does this car have a cold start valve ? Do you have current thru the EHA right before the start (on run position of ignition switch) ? That current should be between 10 and 20 ma.

Ah yes, I should have mentioned that it starts quite well with a little ether/starting fluid. The car does have a cold start valve, I'll check the current tomorrow. Thanks

The cold start valve should get close to 10V when trying to start the car (many think that this only occurs when the car is in freezing cold - but my car, 87 260E in Houston does this). If you do get this voltage, check if there is continuity in its coil, the resistance should be between 10 to 25 ohms. If you have the resistance and have the voltage, check if there is gas spraying out when you try to start.
