Okay to bypass the aux. fan eng. temp. sensor?
On my '89 300SEL the engine/coolant temperature sensor/switch (the blue-bodied one that turns the aux. fan on when the engine is hot) is faulty.
I was thinking I would just pull the plug on it until I get a replacement. This will result in the fan running whenever the car is "on". Are there any potential problems with doing this? Of course, if there aren't any problems with doing this, it will significantly reduce my motivation for getting a replacement (until cooler weather hits anyway). Thanks. -Brett |

What is the original complaint?

Aux Fan
I believe that blue-bodied temperature switch also gives input to the climate control system. With it unplugged you might have some wacky operation from the system - such as no heat.
Is your problem that the fans are coming on at too high of an engine temperature? If the temperature switch is still funtioning you can try installing a resistor across the leads to lower the temperature at which the high aux fans turn on. I installed a variable resistor inside the car to determine what value the resistor needed to be. 2K ohms seems to be what I need but that will probably vary for your car. |

>> As John has posted , the blu sensors job is not only the activation of the 105C coolant temp fan trigger..it is the main temp Input to the ACC panel..this controls other functions and one of the main concerns would be it controls comp cut-out at high coolant temp. Unplugging the sensor eliminates temp input to ACC. I would also be concerned with a constantly running high fan . |

Thanks guys.
I'll see how quickly I can get a replacement. -Brett |
