2000 C280 Sport Rough Cold idle
I have a 2000 C280 Sport which recently started to have a rough cold idle and the car leaps/ jerks when trying to drive reight after starting. The problem goes away if the car is warmed up before driving. The ABS and Check Engine lights also have come on - the ABS light goes out but the check engine light stays on. Any ideas about what's going on? I've seen a post with a simialr problem on a 1997 C280 but thought that the cause is not the same since my car is a later model.

If you have a CEL light on, there will be diagnostic codes stored in the computer memory.
Get the codes read & voila.....should tell you what is causing your cold start, driveability problem (s).

Read the codes and adaptation values guys. You can spend big $$$ throwing parts at it, or do a proper diagnosis. Every post will tell you the same thing. The second post in this thread hit the nail on the head. Go forth and diagnose...

Solve them one at a time. Have you used a simple scanner or had the car on SDS? SDS will read much more than the standard OBD-II codes, including diagnosis of ABS components.
As for fuel trim, read the adaptation values to see if you are running rich or lean. Then it's a good bet that you're either needing an Air Mass Meter or Fuel Pressure Regulator. Reading the adaptation values will point you on the path initally. ABS lights can be triggered by a malfunction in the ABS sytem, but also by other things, including low voltage. Solving the drivability problem is the first task, and then dig into the ABS if the problem remains.

I had trouble codes indicating fuel trim problems with both the left and right cylinder banks and misfires on each cylinder. A new mass air flow sensor has corrected the problem. It now runs fine.
