MB 560sel fuse#5
I have a 1991 MB 560 SEL whose #5 fuse burns out almost everytime I start the car. On a couple of occasions, it blew out only after I turned on the the climate control fan. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for?
Thanks for the help. |

Try un-plugging the smog pump clutch electrical connrction.
Or removing the relay at position "E" in the fuse box.

Where is the smog pump clutch electrical connection located?
I did not find the position "E" in the fuse box--I don't think it was marked as such. Could you describe the location? I started the car today and let it run. One of the square "silvery colored" relays(one of three in the fuse box) did feel pretty hot to the touch. Does that mean anything? Thanks. |

When you remove a relay there is a "letter" inked on the electrical connector.
The smog pump clutch connector is on the right front apron near the passenger headlight.

I unplugged the smog pump clutch connection and so far (three starts), the #5 fuse has not blown! Hooray!
I guess I just leave it unplugged now, right? What does the "E" relay do? Could I have gotten along without that plugged in? Thanks a lot for your help! |
