Need advice/recommendation for an OHM meter

Most of the engine switches and temp sensors have been replaced by my mechanic but there are three more I would like to test. I want to learn how do do this myself.

I read posts on you guys testing for resistance. Where would I look for resistance ratings for the sensor I would be testing?

When testing a temp sensor, for example, the 34/42 celcius temp sensor, or others where would I get info on the sensors properties? What kind of testor equipment do you use? Or recommend. An OHM meter? Brand name or model would help.
I can replace a steering box but this electrical stuff is new to me.
Thanks in advance. Dan
