560SEL suspension issues

Have '86 560SEL w/ 58K miles. Rear suspension is sagging. Rides like it's loaded heavy and at the end of the shock travel.

Have replaced accumulators and rebuilt pump on the engine (kit purchased from George Murphy, see mbca.org forum for info on George)

Here's my main question. I was under the car trying to remove the nut holding the linkage to the arm on the height control valve. Pulled hard enough on the nut to cause the control valve arm to move so that my suspension rose just a little. Noticed that the "mount" thing on the torsion bar moved a little as well, so must be slightly loose. Drove the car after the suspension rose a little and it drove really smooth but eventually it returned to the sagging, sorta bouncy ride.

If the car is not loaded (i.e. just me and a tank of gas) should there be some pressure in the suspension system so that the struts and accumulators have at least some fluid in them? Or should the springs carry all the weight until their is a load. I'm finding that if I can get a little fluid pushed into the system the ride improves dramatically.

Also, when the leveling control valve lever is at 90 degrees it appears the car sags and there is no pressure in the system. If I can cause the lever to be in a slightly upward position the car rises just a little and the ride is perfect.

sorry for rambling, but hopefully someone can understand what i'm trying to say.

thanks for any help
