Door Handle Removal...

Allo.

I have a 1985 380 SE. Sedan.
Driver front inside door handle is sagging/drooping.
Have new parts but need instructions to remove old one
before I destroy anything.

Please advise.

Conrad.

I practiced on a car at PicNPull. Best two bucks for the know how.
If you go there pick up a few extra door panel clips just in case you break one.

You will need a small flat head screw driver to unseat the plastic covering in the door handle recess. Under the covering is a screw that will release the handle recess. Once the recess is released you will see a large screw that secures the top of the door armrest.
Remove the chrome plates attached to the door. One near the front of the door window and another near the door latch.
Remove two screws recessed at the base of the armrest.

The arm rest should lift free. Now, for me, it was best to remove the door panel with the window down. Remove the "puddle" light fixture from the bottom of the door. Just pull out and unplug. Remove three small chrome screws at the base of the door panel.
Use a large flat head screw driver slipped in between the door panel and the door itself to unlatch the clips. Should be one at each corner and I think one in the middle at the base of the door. Now just lift up/wiggle the panel free from the top of the door.

While you have the panel off clean the window tracks. Add a good silicone lube in the tracks. Sure speeds up the window travel.
Good luck

Many tks for swift reply.

My 85 380 SE, Sedan has electric seat buttons, near the inside
door handle. Do i need to remove these levers too or just
the plastice covers on the levers ?

Where are these ' clips ' available ?
If broken, can it be fixed/glued ?

Is your Benz a Astral Silver Metallic color ?

Just pull firmly on each seat button. As far as the door panel clips, I just collected a few at the junk yard. PicNPull "foreign" is best place to go here in Sacto.

If you prefer to order online, try ***************. Also known as Rustys.
Click on online catalogue. Enter you cars particulars. Then browse for hours.
Another site is DriveLine. Usually shipping is free if order is over $75.

Success !

ALLO.

It's done.
The black plastic covering in the door handle recess is the
'key' to unlocking this mystery.

Also, knowing that the 'clips' are 'J ' shaped is helpful.

Neighbor is a retire mech-(old school) and handyman.
Did the task, at his leisure, and charged only $65.

Total cost plus the $20 part= $85. total...

Good to go for another 22 years....
Plus the window movement is smoother after a cleaning
of the track and silicone lube.

Many, many tks for the tips.

Where to find the price of the cost of a 1985 MB 380 SE
when it was new ?

ps. Just replaced the a/c compressor and then c/o
to R-134 and now, after a few minutes, it's blowing
snow out....Great stuff for the triple digit temps in
northern California this week...
