So I get into my 1969 2890 SEL, start it up and put the column mounted shifter into DRIVE and nothing happens. I open the hood and I can see that the lever that actuates the shifter on the side of the tranny has dropped off. It's the actuator rod which snaps on at the front but seems to be held on differently at the rear where it turns the shifter. How is this rod held onto this little ball joint anyway? Any thoughts out there? Thanks in advance.

The end of the linkage has a plastic ball socket molded into it. Probably worn out. Fairly easy to replace.
