1985 190e
Trying to get this thing running so i can move it out of the driveway.
Ok first let me start with whats wrong: The seller i bought this car from claimed that the carb was out of tune, didnt really care all i saw was a 5-speed transmission and gave him $300 for it. Take it home and im poking around the engine bay to find its a fuel injected engine, no silly carb! Ok so it looked like the throttle body? (sorry im gas illiterate) was replaced as there is an old one in the trunk. We poured a small amount of gasoline in it and it will start up but wont stay running. Bled the line coming from the rear fuel pump and it pushes fuel! (trust me i got sprayed all over my face opening the fuel line to the throttle body) checked the spark plugs and they seem ok, they are cheapo champion spark plugs. Cables, cap and rotor (napa brand) look new. Oil is black as crap probably needs an oil change. it will stay running for a little with pushing the go pedal but it wont stay running for more then 30 seconds. Suggestions, help, criticism are welcome and much appreciated.

Before replacing any parts, I would check all wiring connections and especially vacuum hose connections. Under the fuel distributor/throttle body, there is a rubber hose that goes to the bottom connection of the Idle Control Valve. On my '93 2.3, I can reach my hand under the intake in front of engine and put my hand on the hose to check for connectivity or to change it. Also, check the hoses that run along side of the valve cover, there are three connected together. It goes from the air cleaner housing, to the side of the valve cover (there should be a small vacuum connection at the first splice that goes over to the fuel pressure regulator), then to the intake manifold, and ends at the top connection of the Idle Control Valve.
Check everything and report back...I'm sure someone on the forum has more information to share.
