Angry '91 300E - Heater core blues

Need some help from the forum here. Started in to replace the heater core in my 1991 300 E (124.030). Have the dash stripped out, center brace out, left side off heater case, top plenum off, and right side completely off. I removed the bracket behind the heater case and rotated out of the way. I have the top of the heater core exposed and have taken screws out of the left fitting. I have one screw out of the right fitting. Unable to get out the second screw without taking off the top of the case, which I cannot get accomplished. I dont see any screws but I guess there has to be something holding it on.
QUESTIONS:
Do I have to take this top off to get the old heater core out and new one in?
What am I missing at this point?
I can send pictures if needed. I am so close but can't quite get this figured out, I'm stuck! So close but so far!!!

Any help appreciated!
Thanks
Rick Hall

I think there are two screws and some metal clips. Don't lose the clips!

If there are screws, they are probably underneath. Been a few years since I did this, and I had the box out to replace the evaporator.

I know you must be frustrated. Like psfred, I cannot remember for sure if there were screws but there were lots of clips. There may have been screws, too, but you should be able to see them. I know there were a few screws but I can't remember if they held the top on. I remember thinking that the heater core could be replaced without removing the box from the car, when I had mine out to do the evaporator.

Some of the pods/linkage will probablt have to be removed before the top will come off, too.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

I just found this photo of the top off: There are some other pics there, too:http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_dash/

OK, there are four screws, two on the front edge, two on the sides near the front. All accessible from above.
