Oil Pressure Gauge!

OOPS! 1989 300E!

Took out my instrument cluster to check the speedo connection and misc. Replaced the cluster and now the oil pressure gauge is dead. All other gauges work along with the illumination. All connections seem OK. Did I short something? Is there a separate fuse for the oil gauge?

Thanks!

There is a four pin connector behind the instrument cluster. One of the pins connects the oil pressure gauge. The other pins are for the windshield washer system level indicator switch and warning buzzer contact. It is possible the four pin connector was not seated properly.

Oil Pressure Gauge!

Well, this has me stumped. I checked out the connector and it seems OK. There is only one way to put it on and the connection appears good.

If you have a service manual cd refer to procedure 54-0254 to check the cable and sensor. PM with your email address and I can send the instructions. The oil pressure sensor has a connection near the base of the oil filter. Check to see if the connection is good, this cable goes from the sensor to the connector at the back of the cluster.

Oil Pressure Gauge!

Could be some electrical gremlin here!

I pulled off the connector to the oil sensor at the oil pan and the windshield washer warning light came on. I tried jumping the sensor directly to the 4 connector pins to the back of the cluster. Other warning lights would go on but the gauge was still dead. Maybe the gauge is just "DEAD!" I am not aware of any "FUSE" just for the oil gauge. All other gauges and lights work OK!

The oil pan sensor is for the low oil level warning light, the sensor near the base of the oil filter is for the oil pressure gauge.

OOPS!

Thanks for the information. I will look at that connection too below the oil filter as you suggested.
