Transmission fluid and sealer

If the front seal of my '87 300E transmission is leaking, will any of the aftermarket transmission sealers work for the time being? Anyone got a particular brand they can recommend or one that I should definitely not use?

Other than MB tranmsmission fluid, what transmsission fluid would you all recommend?

I'm guessing the silence on here means that you guys aren't too keen on those aftermarket transmission sealants. Anyway, it's just a stop-gap to put off the expense of a transmission shop - they want $795 plus labor to fix the leak! So I bought a product from Auto Advance that one of the guys it trust recommended - its made by Lucas and i think its called Trans Fix. I'll let you all know how it works out...

I'm wondering if the leak was caused by the car sitting motionless for 4 months - could it have caused a low spot in the front seal?

I used one of those products for power steering leaks.
I still have a leak but not near as bad. I too plan to fix it correctly eventually but as an interim fix it worked great............Dan

Thanks Dan - it has to be worth a try. The product says it won't damage the transmission...
