Immobiliser?

Hi folks, I'm having problems with a '96 C250, car opens on the remote OK.

Turning the key in the ignition, no solenoid pulling in.

Jumping the solemoid, it appears no fuel pump - it tried to start once but nothing since.

I've tried all combinations of lockin & unlocking etc. with no success.

Anyone out there got any thoughts?

Hi, does the manual give any details on the operation of the alarm/immobilizer? I know my Corvette will delay 6 min. if the VATS is activated and reset that timer each time another attempt is made to start the car during that time. The MB may have a similar action.

Then again, maybe the fuel pump has given up the ghost or possibly a fuse or relay?

You might try disconnecting the battery for 30minutes.

Tried the diconnection route (whilst I charged the battery).

Can anyone confirm that this seems to be the immobiliser?

Do you have blinking lights on your rear view mirror?

If you've had battery/charging problems you should first re-sync the alarm system. Instructions should be in the owners manual.

I would then replace the battery in the remote (I'm assuming you have a keyless system). IIRC the 96 differs from the later models (where the remote battery only powers the infared door locks) and uses some battery power to communicate with DAS.

Remote batteries replaced, and remote synchronised.

Only the green light in the RVM flashes, but only ever did!

Which key do you have. With or W/O a metal blade?

If the remote has a metal blade follow the door/ign test Matt L outlined in this thread.

One fried module - not sure which & immobiliser had lost its memory.

Thanks to the main stealer who would not even look at the car, thank goodness for good friends.

Back up and running.
