Does anyone know why my key wont turn? A Mercedes tech came out, said it was battery, replaced battery, and key still wont turn. Have tried turning wheel all the way left and right...nothing! PLEASE HELP

have you tried a spare key?

and have you HELD the steering wheel against it's lock-all the way to the left or right - while turning the key?

also have you jiggled around the foot brake pedal and shift lever to see if somehow the shiftlock mechanisim is interfering.

Thats all I can think of.

Can you lock/unlock the car with either remote key? If not, then it sounds like the ignition switch (EIS) is the problem. Not only does the EIS read the IR signal when the key is inserted, it also validates the RF signal when locking or unlocking.

OK, it seems likely that the keys aren't the problem. Unfortunately the EIS is still the most likely culprit. Before you call the dealer, , make sure you check all the fuses.

Thanks, turns out it was the key and the battery. Just had a tech install a stereo and I guess it ruined the key and battery. I replaced both and car starts fine.
