Angry Front Pump Whirring?

Just replaced the front seals on my 90 300E. Didn't realze before starting the job that it would involve compressing the springs on the front pump assy. to get to the seal. Anyway, after tackling that with some quick grip clamps, I put everything back together. One thing I failed to do was pack the teflon rings with grease before reassembling. Now it doesn't leak a bit, operates perfectly normal but it sounds like the front pump or something in front of the transmission is whining. I pulled the pan again to make sure the filter was properly seated and changed brands of ATF but it's still whining. One other thing I encountered is the torque converter slid off the tranny and fell about 12 inches to the concrete as I was installing the tranny. Any suggetions? I've searched everywhere.

Thanks,

John
