Fluctuation of the Temp. Gauge 83 380sl

Hi all,

New to this, but I have a 1983 380sl with a temp. gauge that will not rest, bounces up and down (fluctuation). The Benz has good heat and new radiator. Is this a common problem or will I have to pull the dashto fix a spring or new gauge.
