96 W210 Noisy rearview mirror

Hey Guys,

Lately I've been noticing a "buzzing" coming from the rearview mirror. Any ideas why, and can it be fixed? I did, at one point, have to PL400(construction adhesive) parts of the mirror to repair it.

Matt

Possibly the noise is coming from the in-car temp sensor in the dome lamp?

MBDoc,
Yes it is, after getting up close it is definetly coming from the sensor. Does that mean it's faulty, or is it fixable?

Small motor in the light assembly for drawing air past a temperature sensor for the heating system. Could be dirty, most likely wants lubricating or replacing.

Thanks POD,

I'll pull it out and see what's up. I'm glad I don't have to deal with the mirror again.

Mine wasn't noisy, but I pulled because it wasn't reading properly. It was caked full of dust.

As with any fan (or anything else with turning parts), be sure to mechanically stop the fan from turning before you blast it with compressed air.

On an almost-unrelated note, our clothes dryer started making a horrible noise while running. That was also due to dust in the fan. It was a lot more work to clean that one out.

Thanks MBDoc, If it doesn't clean up I'll get it ordered.

Matt L, speaking of dryers, our isn't drying properly, but the vent goes up wall, across the next room and outside. I think I'll have to use some kind snake to clear it out...that should fun.

You might want to get right on that ....
