124 Trunk Bumpers ?

I know this is small potatoes, but I was looking at the small black plastic or hard rubber bumpers or guides which are on either side of the trunk opening on my '95 E300D, and those babies are really deteriorated.

I'm not sure how or why this happens - they are obviously out of the light (ultraviolet) when the trunk is closed, which is the situation 99.99999% of the time, and they don't seem to be subjected to much stress, but they are starting to really fall apart.

The trunk lid might start rattling at this rate... Anyone replaced them or have other comments?

Rgds,
Chris W.

All three of my 124s show this. As an experiment I bought some rubber coating for tool handles and painted one set with that (bright red!) It is holding up well. On another, I scraped the old coating off, not hard to do, and simply put foam insulation on the mating surfaces -- also serving the purpose and holding up OK. On the five speed euro, number 3, I have yet to get to this small of a detail yet

I ordered a set of these from Phil in October of 2006. The above referenced part number is not correct. As I recall, the total cost for the set was about $20.00.

Mr. Hunter:

Just checked my receipt file. These bumpers were my order number 67594 of 10 October 2006. Unfortunately the receipt does not list the part numbers. Maybe you can find them in your database.
