check engine light
my light came on and i have noting to read it with .. i did notice that under my hood along the firewall there is a row of pin connectors and there was a red light on .. i disconnected the battery to reset the light to see if it will come back on but just curious if anyone knows what that red light is
i read in a different post that you can buy a DMM from sears to read the engine codes .. but i have no idea what DMM is, and i dont know if i need anything additional to go along with the tool from sears thanks in advance 1988 300se |

"row of pin connectors" sounds like an 8 pin connector but it would be helpful to know exactly what you have.

Your car is a 126.024, apparently a CA version since it has the 8 pin connector. You are trying to read the codes shown on page 23 of the Baum book. They are on pin #3 of the 8 pin connector. With the code tester shown on the top of page 9 insert the black pin into socket 1, the yellow pin into socket #3 and connect the red pin to the battery or a 12V power source. Can you post a picture of your 8 pin connector?
Here's a couple of links that may be helpful - http://mywebpages.comcast.net/chwilka/Error_Code%20_reader_reset_tool.htm http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_X11.html - go to bottom of page |
